I am Julien Simon, your golf instructor.

I have been giving golf lessons in Paris, Versailles, and the Île-de-France region since 2016, teaching to golfers of all levels.

My approach can help you, whether you are a beginner aiming to hit your first balls under the best conditions or a player with a handicap of 2 seeking to improve your scores in Grand Prix tournaments.

Julien Simon is bilingual French-English and can therefore give you golf lessons in English.

In summary:

  • I learned golf with my father, a professional golfer, at one of the country’s top clubs (RCF Versailles La Boulie).

  • I have been playing golf for 30 years.

  • I continue to train daily, with consistent improvement in my results each year.

  • I study all the latest golf training programs available on the French and English-speaking markets (Trackman, Smart2Move, GolfSmartAcademy, Putting Zone, and insights from David Orr, Paul Hurrion, Mike Thomas, Mike Adams, Michael Hebron, among others).

  • In parallel, I train in martial arts, psychology, and mental preparation.

  • For the past 8 years, I have also been meeting with expert French coaches to learn from their specialties and preferences, incorporating them into my methodology (Kenny Le Sager, Renaud Gris, Christian Caevert, Guillaume Biaugeaud, David Arrignon, Laurent Cabanne, Guillaume Viant Benard, Antoine Schwartz, Jean-Pierre Cixous, and more).

To my knowledge, I believe no one is doing this today.

Thanks to this diverse range of tools, I can create bridges between different disciplines and golf, making the advice more accessible and easily applicable.

At the same time, studying cognitive biases and psychology allows me to guide the student in avoiding common pitfalls that often waste valuable time. Since golf is a game where failure is part of the process, it’s easy to misinterpret a mistake.

I always make sure the student fully understands the task at hand, to avoid falling into incorrect interpretations that could slow down their progress. It may seem unnecessary, but I guarantee it’s a fundamental pillar.

My journey as a golf instructor

To date, I have introduced and guided over 3,000 people starting golf, trained competitive teams, and I joyfully work with elite groups, including young players under 12 and 14 years old.

I also continue to practice golf daily. Every year, I participate in a few professional tournaments, teaching tournaments, and numerous Pro-Am events in the Île-de-France region.

My initial golf instructor training

I started learning golf at the age of 3 at the Racing Club de France golf course in Versailles, with my father, a former professional player and full-time instructor at La Boulie.

I have a broad sports background, having always practiced many sports in parallel (tennis, judo, soccer, basketball, table tennis, skiing, surfing, horseback riding, rugby, volleyball, badminton, systema, etc.).

Before I turned 21, golf was not yet one of my priorities, and I had a handicap of 15. It was at this point that I decided to fully dedicate myself to golf every day. In just four years, I reached a 0 handicap and earned a small ranking in the French amateur rankings.

To solidify this foundational work and gain a level suitable for teaching golf, I joined the CREPS of Montpellier, where I completed a BPJEPS (French professional golf instructor certification) in partnership with the Club Med Opio in Provence.

Ongoing training to provide the best golf lessons in Paris/Versailles

In 2016, I joined the Golf and Tennis Club of Haras de Jardy. Since then, I have continued to train continuously. To do so, I attend numerous courses on topics as varied as:

  • Ballistics
  • 3D
  • Force plates
  • Short game
  • Putting
  • Driving
  • Psychology
  • Mobility (tension, rhythm, balance..)

This ongoing training is complemented by the very rewarding opportunity to teach golf in Île-de-France to all kinds of audiences, including:

  • Golf school
  • School golf programs
  • Disabled audiences (IME, EMP)
  • Beginners
  • Advanced players
  • Men’s teams
  • Women’s teams
  • Golf initiation
  • Elite competition golf school

The richness of this variety of students who have entrusted me with their training has allowed me to refine and adapt the method I use today for teaching golf.

I currently teach at the Golf de Jardy, located just a stone’s throw from Paris and Versailles.

My individual golf lessons in Paris/Île-de-France are provided at the Golf de Noisy-le-Roi.

The Paris region is ideal because it is home to beautiful, high-quality golf courses where I can continue to improve and help students score in real-life situations (Isabella, Fourqueux, Golf National, La Queue-les-Yvelines, etc.).

But what has truly excited me since my first year of teaching golf is deepening my knowledge!

Each year, I dedicate a significant portion of my time to searching for and learning how to improve my profession.

November 2024

I just finished a 10-hour, 15-day training course designed by Julien.

We worked on all the shots after a 9-hole round together on the first day to define the key areas to focus on.

It was great—Julien adapts perfectly to his student and uses a variety of teaching methods that are very clear and effective!

Julien has a teaching approach focused on personalization, taking into account each person’s goals and profile, and not just providing purely technical advice.

In just a few sessions, I was able to achieve noticeable improvements and enhance my technique, with concrete results on the course.

It’s also worth noting that his availability and kindness are much appreciated.

My additional golf instructor training

  • TPI and golfer mobility;
  • Trackman and its ballistic approach to the game of golf, which I discovered 7 years ago, helped me clear up many uncertainties about the game. As a result, my teaching methodology has continuously evolved and revolves around ball contact, its trajectory, and its flight.
  • I then joined the family of Dr. Will Wu and John Dunnigan and their “Skilled Coaching Alliance.” Beyond the essential mechanical approach, a deep focus on pedagogy was added, specifically on how to convey information in the simplest, clearest, and most effective way possible.
  • Simplifying complexity without diminishing it : My goal is to simplify complex concepts without losing their essence. In golf, this means breaking down intricate techniques and strategies into easily understandable steps, while maintaining their full depth. By doing so, I help my students grasp advanced concepts and apply them effectively, all while preserving the core principles of the game.
  • Finally, discovering Geoff Greig and his research on the technological tool “Focus Band” helped me develop a methodology to optimally use attention, assisting my students in creating their own game routine.

What is a golf routine?

A golf routine is a series of repeated actions performed before each shot to focus and improve performance. It may include visualizing the shot, choosing the club, maintaining a stable posture, and taking deep breaths. Each player has their own routine, but the goal is always to enter an optimal mental state. A good routine helps reduce stress, maintain consistency in the game, and create a rhythm. By following these steps, golfers can better manage pressure and stay focused throughout the round.

The teaching approach for my golf lessons in Paris

So, how does one of my golf lessons in Paris/Île-de-France unfold? The ideal first session is to observe you in action on the golf course in order to:

  • Optimally identify what we need to work on together,
  • Determine the order of priorities,
  • Decide on the frequency of practice.

A practical approach that delivers immediate results

However, due to time or resource constraints, this is not always possible.

In this case, the student and I discuss:

  • Their challenges,
  • Their goals,
  • Their limitations,
  • The time they can dedicate to learning golf.

This observation phase then allows me to create a tailored lesson or series of lessons for the student.

For example, during practice at the range, I focus primarily on observing the trajectory: too high, too low, ball contact, push, pull, slice, hook…

I also always ask the student about their theoretical understanding, to discover how they conceptualize or understand the movement they’re trying to make.

Let’s use your own skills to learn golf

It’s crucial for a golf instructor to understand where their student is focusing their attention. Sometimes, I can even guess this just by the way the person moves, and we often laugh about it together!

Often, incorrect movements stem from a misunderstanding of the task at hand.

As a golf instructor, my job is to help the student conceptualize the task simply and accurately to improve their issue.

I use metaphors a lot for this purpose. I draw connections between golf and other sports—such as shooting, driving, or billiards. Why? Because it allows me to tap into the knowledge the student already has and utilize their existing skills. This is an invaluable time-saver.
